An intraocular lens (IOL) is an implanted lens in the eye, generally replacing the existing crystalline lens because it has been misted up over by a cataract or as a form of refractive surgery to modify the eye's optical strength. The introduction of this sort of lens implant is thrilling alternative for those in need of vision correction. Implantable contact lenses are custom shaped to correct irregularities in vision.

Due to latest procedures in intraocular and implantable contact lens technology, many physicians assume that this method may be the future of vision correction. In time, implantable contact lens technique could replace the need for typical glasses or standard contact lenses. IOL's are advantageous because they are everlasting in the eye. In most cases, the complications that relatively developed with implantable contact lenses were much lower as these lenses are removable and do not physically alter the cornea and patients tend to feel less susceptible by such threats than related to laser refractive surgery. The advantage of this procedure is that patients enjoy the convenience of its reversibility. They feel more comfortable undergoing the surgical procedure since their corneal tissue shall permanently remain unaffected.
